🚨 Issues To Be Aware Of

Professor Jason Arday
Professor Jason Arday, Cambridge’s youngest Black professor, resigned from the University in August 2026 following scrutiny of his academic qualifications and professional claims. He passed away nine days later. The circumstances surrounding his appointment and the University’s handling of the situation prompted calls from almost 100 Cambridge academics for an independent investigation, including concerns about the impact of the case and the racist abuse surrounding it on Black academics. Cambridge subsequently agreed to an independent review, which is examining the support provided to Professor Arday as well as wider issues including the recruitment and support of senior academics and the treatment of academics facing intense public and media scrutiny.

The case is particularly relevant to Black students considering an academic career, as it has raised wider questions about the scrutiny faced by Black academics and the support and protections available to them within elite universities. The independent review is ongoing.
Rest in power, Jason Arday.

About the information on StudyKin

📅 About our scholarship information: We update scholarship information as new details are announced by universities and scholarship providers. Scholarships for 2027/28 may be marked **TBA** where details have not yet been confirmed. Closing dates and eligibility can change, and some scholarships may reopen each year. Always check the official scholarship provider’s website for the latest information before applying.

📊 How we calculate the student demographics
Our demographic data uses the latest HESA and publicly available data for UK-domiciled students, usually from the previous academic year. Figures are rounded to whole numbers, and ethnicity is self-identified by students, so figures are indicative. HESA’s “Mixed” category includes all mixed ethnic backgrounds, including mixed Black backgrounds.

🏛️ What is the Race Equality Charter? The Race Equality Charter (REC) helps universities identify and address racial inequalities. Universities can be REC members without holding an award. Members can work towards Bronze, Silver or Gold awards, which recognise progress towards racial equality.
