How diverse is this university really? Which universities offer scholarships or funding for Black students? What support is available once you arrive?
These are questions thousands of students ask every year, yet I’m sure you’ll find they are rarely discussed.
Universities and university guidance websites often celebrate diversity, but they don’t always tell you the specifics. You might find statistics buried in reports and struggle to find information about where Black students study, if there are any programmes for yr 12 students or spend hours searching for scholarships that are relevant to you.
For many of us, choosing a university isn’t just about league tables or course rankings. It’s also about wondering:
- Will I find a community here?
- Will there be people who understand my experiences?
- What support is available if I need it?
- Will I feel like I belong?
Those are valid questions.
