📣 Things Uni To Know

🔗 Leeds Trinity University becomes first in Yorkshire to be awarded the Silver Race Equality Charter – This is a huge achievement for the university as they become the first university in Yorkshire to achieve the Silver Race Equality Charter (REC) award from Advance HE, recognising its sustained commitment to race equality across all areas of university life.

A standout achievement is the reduction in the degree awarding gap between white and global majority students, from 13.1% in 2022 to just 2.3% in 2025, well below the sector average of 11.4%. This was driven by inclusive mentoring, targeted academic support, anti-racist staff and student training, and a Curriculum for Social Justice framework now embedded across all programmes.

Staff diversity has also improved, rising from 7.1% in 2020 to 13.3% in 2025, supported by race literacy programmes and data-driven recruitment reforms. The university’s Silver Action Plan runs until 2030.

🔗 Coaching for the Global Majority – In 2025, mental health was the leading reason students left higher education, with global majority students, care-experienced students, and those from low-income backgrounds among the most affected.

Leeds Trinity was one of only two universities to receive TASO funding for Coaching the Gap, a programme offering 23 at-risk students six one-to-one coaching sessions to help them manage personal challenges affecting their studies. Students reported improvements in wellbeing, confidence, time management and academic engagement, with the coaching relationship proving key to their progress.
